Recalls, damaging PR, and random safety accusations failed to suppress the brand loyalty that Toyota have built up over the past decades. With hybrid sales of 16,714 units for March 2010 Toyota easily eclipsed the figure of 13,747 units for the same period last year, an increase of over 21 per cent.

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) and Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda) have reached an agreement, on the supply under license of hybrid technology used in the Toyota Prius. Leveraging this agreement, Mazda plans to combine the hybrid system with its next-generation SKY* engine that is currently under development, and develop and manufacture a hybrid vehicle in Japan. Mazda is aiming to commence sales of a hybrid vehicle starting in Japan by 2013. |

US February sales of Hybrid Cars numbered 16,530 units, down 3.65 percent on the January figure of 17,157 units. The Prius recalls contributed to a flat month for hybrid sales. However when compared to the February 2009 figure of 16,019 units the market appears to be holding its own. |

Ford Motor Company recently unveiled the all-electric version of the Ford Transit Connect – the 2010 North American Truck of the Year – at the Chicago Auto Show and confirmed the zero-emissions small van will be in fleet operators’ hands later this year.The 2011 Transit Connect Electric will use a Force Drive electric powertrain manufactured and integrated by specialty upfitter Azure Dynamics. |
